Setting High Priority for BITS Traffic - Software Distribution

$

I'm trying to figure out how I can set SCCM clients to download software from DP's using  BITS high priority. We currently have a GPO for BITS that sets different rates depending on low/normal/high priority. I've set the package to high priority in SCCM but I don't think that affects client BITS job. Has anyone done this?

SCCM 2007 R2 Program Re-run Behavior

I have read the below post on program behavior, but it doesn't cover what I need:

http:// blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/archive/2011/04/05/configmgr-program-rerun-behavior.aspx

(Sorry, I'm too new to have links in the post I guess)

My question is based on these knowns: An SCCM maintenance task removes a computer account from the db due to inactivity, then the system comes back online and is re-added to SCCM,  the system is automatically re-added to a collection, the collection has an advertisement pointed at it and is set to "re-run if previously failed" daily.

Given that the advertisement successfully ran on the system before it was removed, will the advertisement run again or will the system ignore it?

Can No Longer Read Uninstall Keys with vbscript package run by SCCM

$

Hi,

I've been using vbscript packages in SCCM for over a decade, and one thing I do is use the registry to determine if I need to uninstall an old program with the Value:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
or
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Example code snip:

UnstKey = "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{81BE0B17-563B-45D4-B198-5721E6C665CD}"
UnstVal = wshShell.RegRead(UnstKey & "\UninstallString")

If I run this manually, it works great, but all of a sudden, when I run a vbscript like this in SCCM it now returns:
Invalid root in registry key "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{...}\UninstallString"

I normally run everything whether or not a user is logged on as System, but I did a test, and it even fails if I run the package as the user, which really surprised me. I check permissions in registry key, and Everyone has read, System has Modify.

This code was working about a month ago. No changes to SCCM that I know. Sadly, we are still running 2007 SP2

Please help!

SCCM 2007 Package are not getting distributed to 1 DP.

HI Guys,

I am fairly new to SCCM.

I have noticed packages are not getting distributed to one of my DP. I find the below in distmgr.log

Cannot establish connection to ["Display=\\xxxxxxxxxx\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=xxx"]\\xxxxxxxxx\

This is what i have checked till so far.

1] Site server has local Admin right on the DP.

2] All Services are running on Local system and network service where needed.

3] I can access share from DP to Site server and Site server to DP.

Any suggestion would be helpful.

How to disable user based software deployment on a specific machine

$

Hi,

I tried searching the forums about this but couldn't find a definitive answer.

We want to have a few programs distributed based on users instead of computers. This works fine, with a collection per program and with the specific users in that collection. Basically all users have their own machine and are not switching between different machines so this should not be a problem.

Now, we also have a few machines in conference rooms that users might log on to.

What we want is to be able to update the confrence room machines with routine SCCM updates, as we do with all others. What we also want is that no user based software distributions are run on these machines, while machine based distributios are.

Does anybody now how to accomplish this?

Maintenance Windows - Best Practices

$

One of the features of SCCM I've looked forward to the most are Maintenance Windows. The Best Practice Recommendations (in the Help File) suggests that:

"....you should create specific collections for this purpose rather than use the default collections"

If I want to implement Maintenance Windows accross the board, do I need to configure every collection that I create? Will the client get their Maintenance Windows settings as a result of an advertisement on a collection they're in? Or will they get the settings simply by being in a configured collection?

Finally, if I create an advertisement / deployment with, say a 2-week deadline, should I avoid Maintenance Windows for this scenario? The deadline won't override any Maintenance Windows will it?

Status message for Software Distribution/Update not updating in Central site server

$

We have SCCM 2007 R2 installed in Central site server and few primary site servers reporting to Central site servers. Recently we did migration of server in one of primary site server. Post this migration, we found issue. when we tried software distribution from Central site server and copied a "package" to all DPs including problematic server DP also. Package status at primary site server showing as "Installed" but showing "INSTALL PENDING" in central site server. This is creating confusion as we are not able to track the exact status. Software distribution is working fine in primary site server(locally). Same issue occurring in Software Update also. It seems "Status Message" not updating. What is the reason behind this? Access issue? or something missing?

Can anyone help on this?

Exclusion of a pc

Hello good to all many thanks for sharing your knowledge.

The issue is that I have installed the SCCM 2007 and I would be able to exclude the pc´s of a collection in all the other collections to be able to add them with "Add resource" manually. I've tried with a Query that excludes the collection, but introducing a pc d that collection by hand let me enter it, I used this sentence:

<<select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System where SMS_R_System.ResourceId not in (Select ResourceID from SMS_FullCollectionMembership where CollectionID="IND00160")>>

If someone could give me a hand, appreciate it.
Thank you very much for everything and greetings.

Limit a collection

Good,
I'd like to know if there is a Query in SCCM 2007 that would prevent adding a pc in a collection that is excluded to another collection

For now I have this Query to exclude the collection:

<select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System where SMS_R_System.ResourceId not in (select ResourceID from SMS_CM_RES_COLL_xxxx)>

If someone could take a hand, appreciate it.
Thank you very much for everything and greetings

'Run this Step as the following account' query

I need to deploy an upgrade for hundreds of machines. A clean install is preferred over a customized package. So the source setup is used without making any changes. It took a considerable amount of time to make the upgrade work. However it works only when the option ' Run with user rights' is selected and with the admin rights provided for that particular account. It fails with the system account. I was able to eventually make it work only with the below conditions

1) Run with user rights in program properties

2) Give Admin rights to the test account

3) If i put XYZ.exe /S in the command line it fails. So i had to put the content inside a folder called X. The data source in the package properties has \\servername\PackageID\Application name. The X folder is in \\servername\PackageID\Application name\X. The command line is X\xyz.exe.

Point 1 and Point 3 are OK. But Point 2 is impossible as it is difficult to do for hundreds of users.

I thought of using ' Run command line ' in the TS. I tried a domain account for 'run this step as the following account'. What should i put in the command line and in 'Start in' ? I am not able to proceed and getting errors. I need to replicate the scenario in the task sequence so that i can take care of all the three points. Is this possible ?  Looking forward for the answers from the experts...thanks

Software updates package at install pending for a secondary site

Hello all,

For the last 2 weeks I have been fighting ore secondary server that will not download a software updates package. It continues to say "install pending"  I keep seeing the same message in the Distmgr.log on the secondary server. I have checked  the despoil.log, sender.log and replmgr.log and do not see anything that sticks out as being a error. I have other packages that can be sent to this distribution point without any problems so I know the permissions are ok. I have removed the packaged and added it back a few times and waiting day between removing it and adding it back.

This all started when the drive ran low on space and this was the package that ran the drive out of space. My best clue is in the distmgr.log file I see it says package JFG0001ED requires a newer version (5) and the current version is 4. The problem is the distmgr.log file on the primary server is trying to push version 8 and that is the current version going to the other distribution points. It appears that the secondary server is trying to get an different version than the primary server is serving up.

I have also removed the distribution point role from the secondary server and added it back. I'm pretty sure recreating the package will fix the issue but since it is an update package it is almost 5GB that I would have to resend to 40 other DPs.

Best way to create a collection for on-deman installs as required, but, that automatically removes clients after the install

$

SCCM 2007 SP2 R3.  We do "on-demand" installs by having collections setup targeted with advertisements for various products, say Adobe Acrobat Pro, and when we get a request, we manually drop the client into the collection and the install starts in a few minutes.

Problem is...some staff forget to remove the old clients from the collections.

Can a query be setup to automatically remove the client from the collection post-install, when the collection refreshes?  Problem we are seeing is that whether we use a query for HAVING or for NOT HAVING the product, it then brings in all the other computers that don't have the product...

Any way to do this, or, we have to continue to manually remove post-install?

Thanks!

Packages are in Install Pending State for DP's comes under a Specific Primary Site

Hi All

I have SCCM 2007 R3 environment consist of 7 primary and multiple secondary sites. All the package are distributed from one Central primary site. From last few day I am not able to distribute packages to DP's come under one Primary site. Distribution on other primary sites are working perfectly. On the problematic primary site all newly and existing packages if updated or refreshed is showing in Install Pending state.

I checked the logs and found couple of entries on problematic site scheduler log which could be the cause of the issue. This is from scheduler.log. Kindly confirm if am correct and way out to sort out the issue.

The CRoutingInst::MakeInstructionFile function failed with SMS error 2.

An error occurred when creating the routing instruction.

Thanks and Regards

Different hash values causes hash mismatch while deploying

Hello Experts

i have asked help for similar issue and got solution but this time I am experiencing same issue. i am getting below error in CAS.log ""Hash does not match expected 35BC7C2CC2B2F02ADD0FBBBE9EC70BA06B53EA6A, actual 5725F9DA6AA4BC3E6EE3FE89474483326A492353"". however I observed one thing, the hash values in Central server DB and child server DB are same i.e. 35BC7C2CC2B2F02ADD0FBBBE9EC70BA06B53EA6A. however hashdir.exe returns "" 5725F9DA6AA4BC3E6EE3FE89474483326A492353"". can someone why this difference and where can i find this value.

I  used select * from smspackages to find hash values for package.

Thanks..!!

Optional Deployment with Deadline

I want a deploy a Office 2013 package and my design is like that ;

1. The package content should be downloaded by all the clients as soon as possible.
2. Users should have option to install this package until the deadline that I set this package for. (If the start installation the content will be already in their local.)
3. At the end of this deadline the package should be installed automatically.

I know this can perform in software update management (patch management) but I want to do this for an (Office 2013 package ) installation script.

Is it possible ?

Task Sequence Fails due to not being able to pause Software Updates

Hi

I have several thousand clients failing to install an application via a TS because the software updates component cannot be paused as the screenshot below. I am trying to create a collection based on this to target a VB script to clean up the registry keys and associated TS folders so that I can run the TS against the client again.

What would be the best way to do this and also remediation of the error to allow the TS to install the application?? thanks in advance

many thanks

Hash does not match expected

$

In trying to distribute apps via advertisements and run advertised programs, I'm getting the errors Hash does not match expected and hash matching failed.  I'm not using binary differential replication.  The package contains source files is enabled, along with always obtain files from source directory.

This is happening on some, not all of the packages.  I've tried updating the package, but to no avail.  I've deleted the cache on the client as well, but that hasn't helped.  I can run the advertisement from the DP without any issues.

My question is, on the hash error, can the modified date/time of a folder cause the hash error if all the files within the folder have the same modified date/time on the package source and the DP's?

Thoughts?
