SCCM distribution manager cannot create virtual directory

$
0
0

Event ID 2303, 2344 - Failed to create virtual directory on the defined share or volume on distribution point. SMS Distribution manager failed to process package "xxxxxx".

From the SCCM site servers distmgr.log:

CWmi::GetObject():GetObject() failed. - 0x80041001

ERROR CreateVirtualDirectory: Failed to update virtual directory SMS_DP_SMSPKGD$. error = IDispatch error #3585

The description to the status message (2344) suggest the  problem relates to IIS configuration. Looking at the distribution manager log more specifically it would appear to be a WMI error possibly affecting access to IIS. The error 0x80041001 is described as a "Generic failure".

To answer the question you generally see the same error with WMI when you install software with MOF/MFL files associated, I note that MOFCOMP throughs the same "generic" error (0x80041001) e.g. Invalid Class when compiling sometimes.

The solution that worked for me was to reboot the server (2003) and allow WMI to repair itself. This should be the first approach rather that trying to rebuild WMI as recommended for a similar issue affecting SCOM.

I thought I would add this as I could find no other reference to this problem online and feel sure it will affect someone else.

ConfigMgr 2007 R3 AppV OnCheckContentAvailabilityResult Content not available. The location request ID is {GUID}

Hi All

I have got a really weird issue that relates to one Computer Account but not to others.

We distribute AppV 4.6 Virtual Applications by ConfigMgr 2007 R3 to Windows Server 2008 R2 with Service Pack 1 and Windows 7 Enterprise with Service Pack 1.

We have two packages that are coming up with OnCheckContentAvailabilityResult Content not available. The location request ID is {GUID}. (GUID was replaced by me, this is not what appears in the log file execmgr.log)

With both of the packages, they are able to be deployed to other W2K8 R2 and W7 Server and Computer Accounts. However on one W2K8 Server they both fail. Other AppV Virtual Packages are able to be deployed to this server.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the ConfigMgr Client, packages are still being deployed to this server.

I have looked into the Log Files and this is what I can see:

Return Custom Exit Code

Hello Experts,

We are using Wise Script Wrappers to run Microsoft Updates (KB). Wise Script has Exit Installation Command through which we can control the Custom Exit codes return by the setup (Wrapper) .

Case 1

In our case when we use shutdown.exe at the end  after installation of KB's to reboot the machine the exit code reflected in sccm is 0 though we set Exit code 100 in Wrapper.

Case 2

When we dont reboot at the end of installation that is we dont use Shutdown.exe the Exit code return is 100.

We cannot use Config manager restarts computer due to our business needs

So Any help will be appreciated on how we can  control the custom exit codes

Thanks,

Apppack

Hello,

We have been lots of warnings in Offer Manager thread with the below message:

(ID 10005) was reported by component "Software Distribution" on computer
"3ZZFLV1" at site ABC on 27/02/2014 12:04:05.

Looking at the Advertisement ID, {235297AB-5C11-413F-ABD6-4782F92BDD43}". Looks like a SUP Advert.

I have ran the SQL Queries to check for any associated Software Update Deployment, but no luck :(

Does anyone have any idea? Thanks by advance.

Do packages include all source directory files?

Simple question...I'm finding some of my images are getting too big. Do packages includes ALL files in the source directory? Is best practice to only include the exact file(s) being accessed by the package?

Thanks!

Branch Distribution Point 'Install Pending'

I'm having a tough time getting a package to copy to a BDP (our first one).  I think I'm following all the correct steps (adding the remote server as a SCCM Site System as a branch distribution point / adding the new BDP to the package / specify that the contents of the package are automatically copied to the BDP etc), but when I go to the Package Status area, it shows a state of 'Install Pending' for the BDP.  The SMSPKGC$ share is also not getting created on the BDP server.  It's been like that for hours now.  I've also tried manually created the SMSPKGC$ share on the remote server and specify the drive letter to use, but that didn't work either, so I'm obviously missing something.

Is there any simple checklist to go through when setting up a BDP to make sure I've set up everything properly?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

error code 3010 from TS - suppress reboot

Hi guys,

I'm trying to deploy three Citrix MSP's via TS. But after the first MSP installation, the error code 3010 tells TSEnv to boot the machine before it continues to the next.

My goal is to run all three MSP's with only one boot at the end. I've also tried a chained Advertisement with "Run this program first", still no luck. Command line in Programs are:msiexec.exe /update randomcitrix.msp /qn REBOOT=ReallySuppress

Is it possible to resolve this without using script?

Help would be appreciated!

Best regards,

Kenny

Warn user of pending reboot for advertisement ?

We are rolling out IE to a select group of users. It installs fine via SCCM, but we need a notification going out on each PC it will install in XX minutes, then reboot the PC after displaying a countdown to let them know save stuff, etc, etc. We want only this advertisement to display the countdown and warn of a reboot, no others.   There seems to be multiple areas for these settings.  For us to do what we need to, where do we set the settings? Here are some of our settings.

Computer Client Agent Properties set to Restart Countdown (minutes) 60. Restart final notification (minutes) set to 5

Advanced Collection Settings– Restart Countdown is enabled and set to 60 min. Restart final notification set to 5 minutes

In program settings for the advertisement:

Cmd line install:  IE9-Windows7-x64-enu.exe /quiet /norestart /update-no

Allow users to interact with this program unchecked as well as Suppress program notifications.

We do not have ‘Ignore Maintenance windows’ selected.

I currently am deploying Office 2013 to Windows 7 and Windows 8 devices through SCCM 2007 R2 and it is working fine.

However we now have some Windows 8.1 devices that need Office 2013 and when i try to amend the Program Properties of the package I am unable to see Windows 8.1 within the Requirements tab

I need to be able to deploy applications to Windows 8.1 devices. Any help in this will be appreciated.

Error executing Batch SCCM 2007

Hi there,

I'm having problems to execute a batch file during a Software distribution.

I want to Install Adobe Acrobat X Standard with SCCM 2007.

Before the installation will start, a batch file is running with an reg query if Acrobat 9 is installed and if its installed the system will uninstall it.

If i run this batch locally, its working perfectly.

But if SCCM will execute them i get a error message:

------------------------------------

The program for advertisement "S0120067" failed ("S0100057" - "Uninstall Acrobat Standard 9.0"). A failure exit code of 1605 was returned.

------------------------------------

Here the really simple Batch:

------------------------------------

Reg Query HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\68AB67CA3301004FABE7000000000040
 if %errorlevel%==1 goto :end
 msiexec.exe /norestart /x {AC76BA86-1033-F400-BA7E-000000000004} /qn

:end

------------------------------------

Any ideas?

Error Milestone DTS 11/23/2009 2:28:25 PM OPPMCCS6084TST Software Distribution 10006 The program for advertisement "DTS2006D" failed ("DTS0003E" - "Uninstall Altiris Clients"). A failure exit code of 255 was returned.  User context: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM    Possible cause: Systems Management Server (SMS) determines status for each program it executes. If SMS cannot find or correlate any installation status Management Information Format (MIF) files for the program, it uses the program's exit code to determine status. An exit code of 255 is considered a failure.  Solution: For more information on the exit code, refer to the documentation for the program you are distributing.

Any idea ?

thanks,

Run advertisement at every logon event

Hi,

From the reading I've done, I have come to understand that it is not possible for SCCM to run an advertisement at every logon. Am I correct?

I know that I can set a recurring schedule based on a date/time, but I want it to be on the 'login' event.

Alternative?:

If I was to set a recurring schedule (every day at a time before the first user logs in - like 2am), would it trigger on the user's next login?

thanks

Change to BITS-enabled Distribution Point

Hi guys,

Sub: Change to BITS-enabled Distribution Point

Let say the DP was not BIT-enabled, and I want to enabled BITS on that DP now.

Q: Do I need to refresh/update packages inside the DP?

OR do I need to clear cache content on client e.g C:\Windows\system32\CCM\cache?

Any concerns on changing to enabled BITS on DP that I should be aware of?

Many thanks in advanced!!

Can I create a package that uses a config file where the command line needs to specify the actual path for the config file? Basically msiexec /i test.msi configfile=%path of ccmcache%\configfile
