Branch distribution point extreme slow in copying packages

$

I have two environments, where BDPs are extremely slow in copying some packages. In two months some packages haven't been copied to BDP. It is not up to WAN speed, some much bigger packages have been copied over in 6 hours.

In logs you can see that the BDP copies packages all the time - it is just darn slow. The biggest problems are with device driver packages.

Are there some limitations in package content, meaning size or number of files & folders? I have a feeling that the problems started when more drivers were added to driver package. Now there are some 2000 files and size is 500 MB.

The OS of BDPs is Windows Server 2003. Any suggestions?

RealPlayer 16.0 SCCM 2007 Package Silent Install Issue

I am as the title states deploying RealPlayer 16.0.3.51 to users...very few users. I am using Wise Studio to re-package the application. I downloaded the alternative installer (this way I can use switches) and in the script I delete the desktop icon and suppress the EULA.

When I manually run the package on a regular end-user account I get this error message.

"As a Restricted User you do not have adequate Windows operating system rights to use this program to install software. Please contact your system administrator for help."

Even when I right click the .exe on the regular end-user account and run as admin it gives me this error, but, it works when I am logged on an admin account.

Hmm...okay let me deploy it as a mandatory assignment from SCCM, that way it runs as theSYSTEM and not the USER. So be it I get the same error again!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Package disappeared from distribution point

I have a package that has been distributed for several months and has not been updated for several months on several distribution points. One of the distribution points shows in the console that the package is installed. In the last week I have had several clients in the local site with this distribution getting a waiting for content message. The clients get the error Error retrieving manifest (0x80070003). I check the folder on the distribution point and the files are not there. The files are present on all other distribution points and in the source folder. What could have cause the package to be removed from the local distribution point and why does the console still show it installed?

Update OR Refresh?

Hi guys,

Just a quick question.

I've made a mistake in typing the command line under package properties.

But the package has been distributed over quite a lot of distribution points.

Now I have made the changes on the Central Server and recorrect the command line.

Should I then do
a. Update the Distribution Points or
b. Refresh the package on selected distribution points?

And I suppose another option 'Update all distribution points with a new package source version' is same as the first option?

What are the differences between update and refresh?

Thank you.

SCCM 2007 SP2: Collection not reflecting memberships from all systems

Hi SCCM Gurus..

Im beginner in SCCM and In my env (Windows 2003 SP2 and SCCM 2007 SP2), After created the collection and all stuff for a package, Im adding machines to the AD group which the collection query was configured with. No matter I'm adding the machines which already part of some other collection / New machines added into the domain the collection takes a day to show the machines. Immly after adding the machine to domain, i can see those machines in all systems collection within 30 mins. But the collection is not reflecting the memberships, but it takes a day to do so

•Tried "Update Collection Memberships" option and F5
•Tried with new machine and old machine (which already gone thru some other collection and deployed)

After creating the AD group i can see the "AD System Group Discovery" finds the group thru adsysgrp.log. But i have no idea how to track the group membership updates towards collection members list. Upto my knowledge i have given below info

•Deployment anyway happening fine, only with too much of delay of one day. Hence i dont think there will be any config issues for deployment.
•Direct memberships in collection also happening fine. But its not our way of deployment. We need Groups based.
•After adding the machine to domain, i can see the machine in all systems in 30 mins. hence discovery happening fine i hope.
•If we create a collection with the machines already in SCCM console, it has to reflect the collection members immly i hope. Coz, i can see the faster response in another domain in this scenario (but its win 2008 ent server)
•With the same discovery polling schedules, that another domain collections reflects the members within hours.

I have already searched thru technet forums and googled, not able to find informations relevant to my issue hence posting it here. Please guide me through how this can be sorted out. What other details you may need to help me, i can provide those. Im waiting for advises.

Resend package status from BDP to Primary Site

We have many BDP is our infrastructure.  Sometime, some packages are installed successfully to a BDP but the BDP doesn't send back  and/or the primary site doesn't process the status message to change the staus from "Install Pending" to "Installed"

Is there a command you can run to send a request to the BDP to report back all packages status to the primary ?  Branch distribution point maintenance task check all packages but this action doesn't send anything back to primary if the package is already distributed.

I know I could update the package but I will end up with a similar problem with other BDPs.

Thank you

Deploy software to all but one OU

I'm trying to distribute a software package to all computers except those in a certain OU.  I've tried to create a query that will accomplish this but am having some problems.  I've tried to query all computers that are within the root computer OU and exclude the other computers by using an "is not like" statement.  The "is not like" statement doesn't seem to be working as expected.  Here is what I'm currently trying:

Code Snippet

select *  from  SMS_R_System where SMS_R_System.SystemOUName like "DOMAIN.COM/DEPARTMENTS AND GROUPS" and SMS_R_System.SystemOUName not like "DOMAIN.COM/DEPARTMENTS AND GROUPS/OU TO NOT DEPLOY TO"

I've also tried a "and not" between the two statements and used "is like" instead.  Same results.  Anybody have some suggestions on how to accomplish this?

Hi,

As I wanted to install SAP GUI 7.3 ON SCCM Clients.

I created a package and distributed the software using advertisement.

The program setup get loaded on the clients machine, but after that no action is done by the system.

Moreover, SCCM report shows program running and after sometime it gives the error :

"The program for advertisement "UDR20017" ("UDR00057" - "SAP GUI 7.3") exceeded the maximum allowed run time of 120 minute(s). Systems Management Server (SMS) has stopped monitoring the program, and is unable to determine the status of the program. SMS will not automatically attempt to run this program again"

How can i get out from this error?

Thanks in advance

I have the same problem described in the blog. I tried to change the network connection type to Slow or unreliable for VPN Subnet boundary which did not help.

During the VPN connection Config manager client properties show incorrect AD Site name.

Install Lync 2013 and remove Lync 2010 client - SCCM issues?

$

We have Windows 7 x64 PC’s running Lync 2010 64-Bit client. What I need to do is install the Lync 2013 32-Bit client and then uninstall the Lync 2010 64-Bit client. Using the Office Customization Took, I am able to install the Lync 2013 client fine, however the 2010 client isn’t not removed. Here is what I did:

-Have the standalone Lync 2013 installer. I then copied the Lync 2010 64-bit install files into a new folder in the Lync 2013 source files. This folder is c:\Lync2013\Lync2010

-Created MSP file using OCT set to never reboot.

-Under ‘Add installations and run programs’ option, I specified the Lync 2010 to be removed post install of Lync 2013. The Command line:  [post install] [INSTALLLOCATION]\Lync2010\LyncSetup.exe /silent /uninstall

-Loaded this into SCCM and set to run at a logon event.

As stated above, Lync 2010 is not removed. A few questions:

  1.  Is this even possible using the OCT?
  2. In the OCT, is it a problem trying to mix two different installers? One 32-Bit, the other 64-Bit?
  3. If not, then is the command line correct for the Lync 2010 uninstall?
  4. If no for # 3, how do I make SCCM use the correct path to the package where the Lync 2010 install files are? In the OCT, do I need to have the Lync 2010 command line as:  \%WINDIR%\SystemWOW64\CCM\Cache\nameofpackage

Please help me alleviate some frustration with any ideas for the above.

Hi,

I am deploying SAP GUI 730 on SCCM Clients.

But i found that it was running a wizard based installation.

and when i added "/silent" in the command line, it did not run at all.

In such cases how can we deploy the SAP GUI  730 without user interaction?

Thanks in advance.

Package install keeps failing with exit code 1619

Hello,

I am hoping some one couild help me out with this. I am trying to deploy a simple .exe package from SCCM 2007 to two test computers. I adverstied the package to a collection with two test pcs and when I went to view the Status of a specific advertisement it showed that the install failed. I attached screen shots from the execmgr.log and also a screen of the switces I used when I created the program.

Also, I was able to install the program with no problem frrom the command line using ADS1996.EXE /S /v/qn

but when I use the same command in sccm it fails

From my understanding error 1619 means "This installation package could not be opened.  Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."

Hello All,

I am using a VB script in sccm 2007 to remove "Google Toolbar" from client computers.

SCCM removes the "Google Toolbar" OK, but  when I check status of  "advertisement" it shows that the task is failed. Here is the message I get: "A failure exit code of 1 was returned."

Any Suggestion ?

Thanks

Zaher

All I want to do is run a program on the computer at night, like software updates run.

I don't want it to be Advertised to the user.

What is the best way to do this?

Thanks...

Create query that contains computers without EMET 3.0 installed

Hi,

I have spent a few hours trying to create a query for a collection that contains only computers that do not have EMET 3.0 installed. Every combination that I tried so far is producing a count that is far from what I expect to see. The line item from within Programs and Features calls out this program as EMET. I see it spelled the same way in the Values list.

I have tried the following Attribute Classes:

  • Add/Remove Programs - Display Name
  • Add/Remove Programs (64) - Display Name
  • Installed Software - Program Name
  • Software Files - File Name
  • Software Products - Product Name

These are all of the conditions that I tried with each of those:

  • is not equal to
  • is not like
  • lowercase is not equal to
  • lowercase is not like
  • uppercase is not equal to
  • uppercase is not like

I don't see any other attribute classes that would be applicable to software. Would someone please be able to give me some guidance on how to accomplish this query? Obviously there is more to this than just choosing one class because the results I am seeing are nowhere near close to what I am expecting.

Thanks,

Rob

Does anyone know if the tool SINVVIEW.EXE is available for download. Or perhaps there is a more recent tool that replaces it?

Thanks,
