NO_SMS_ON_DRIVE after package distribution

$

0

Prior to my starting at my current company some secondary site servers were setup and NO_SMS_ON_DRIVE.SMS was not placed on the C: drive.  After some time the D (intended) volume filled up and SCCM began using the C drive for packages.  I've since created the NO_SMS_ON_DRIVE.SMS file on the root of C: to prevent any other packages going there.  But, what happens with the existing content that is on there?  My current understanding is that SCCM will not add any additional content to that drive, but it will still continue to access the content that had previously made it there without issue.

I'd like to get this data off of the C drive and over to the D drive where it should be (at least in our environment).  What would be the "clean up" process to do this properly?  My guess with that is I'd just manually move the folders over and then run some SQL update to point to the new spot, but I figured that I would ask around first since I'm unsure.

Thank you

Hello,

I have on disk several "packages SRV000CD.1.tar, SRV000CD.2.tar etc... but I could not find them in the SCCM Console.

They are located in the folder SMSPKGSIG... they are 500 MB each ...

I am trying to locate them in SCCM thanks to Vasu... (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/15522.how-to-find-full-path-location-of-sccm-package-or-collection-single-query.aspx)

but still nothing.... are they orphans... it is starnge as their dates are recent 5/22/2013 1 month ago...

I did

select * packagefolders

or

select * from vpackage

and no trace of SRV000CD???

Any idea how to locate them???

Thanks,

DOm

PCK file using all my disk space

I have a secondary site server running Server 2003 R2 w/ a 30GB C drive and a 250GB D drive.  SCCM is installed to the C drive but the Distribution Point is housed on the D drive.  Currently the server has no drive space on C.  When I investigated, I found a single file under C:\SCCM\inboxes\despollr.box\receive - a PCK file - that is over 20GB in size.  What is this file, why is it so big, why is it on the C drive and what can I do about it?

Thanks in advance.

How to distribute folder containing .exe

$

I need to distribute some software (called BMDS). In order for the software to work on a users machine, the following criteria needs to be met:

  • c:\USEPA folder created on users C drive
  • Entire contents of BMDS folder held on my SCCM server to be copied to users c:\USEPA folder
  • The BMDS.exe file in that folder to be ran

Is it possible to distribute this software in this way using SCCM?  If so, what would I put into the command line when creating the program?

Any help gratefully received.

BTW this is the info from the US EPA website where this software is located:

"BMDS 2.4 is being distributed as a compressed ZIP file and does not employ any automated install programs or wizards"

Remove application shortcuts from Public Desktop

Hello:

I have created a software package which works just fine when I advertise it to a group of computers. The issue that I am running into is that it creates shortcuts for the application the desktop for all users located at C:\Users\Public\Desktop. What I figured I would do is create another program under the same software package that would delete these shortcuts and I would add the program to the task sequence that advertises this software package so that everything would be done at once.

The new program that I created has the following parameters set:

Command Line: cmd /c "del /F /Q "AppShortcut.lnk""
Start in: C:\Users\Public\Desktop

But this does not work. On the SCCM logs it says that it completes successfully but the shortcut is still there. I tried to also change the command to invoke powershell instead and use the 'Remove-item' cmdlet but still no luck. The weird thing is that if I run the same command in an elevated console (either the dos 'del' command of the powershell one) on the machine directly (obviously as an admin) it does not work, it says 'access denied'. But I can manually delete the file although I get the UAC prompt when I do it.

I've searched these forums and found this: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrswdist/thread/ae857ff2-c3dd-4902-86c5-8350451a9089 which I also tried but did not work. I should mention that I have tried this on other locations in the target machine (ie. C:\apps\shortcuts\myapp.lnk) and the commands work fine from the command line and from SCCM.

Is there something specific to the c:\users\public\desktop folder that is preventing this from working? any thoughts?

Thanks.

Copying packages to globally distributed distribution points

$

Hi Guys,

I need some advice here.

We have central site and a primary site in US and 4 primary sites in 4 other countries.

Each of the primary sites has nearly 20-30 distribution points.

Environment is SCCM 2007 R3 on Windows Server 2003

So far all the packages and images are stored on the central site. Now we want to distribute those packages to all other primary sites and their distribution points then manage everything from the central site.

So here it comes the fun part. I did a test distribution of 10MB file took more than 2 hours. Based on the test it looks impossible to distribute 100GB apps and images to all the DP’S.

So what are my options copying these files to all the sites and DP’s?

Package is not being copied to BDPs

Hi Experts,

In my environment, an office 2010 package is not being downloaded to 10 BDPs.

I have reffered the link below:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/45f1b7db-3c79-4f8e-8bf9-2465150bf153/administrator-manually-copies-this-package-to-branch-distribution-points

Microsoft resolved this issue saying that:

  • There wasDisk quota limit set for 1GB on the D:\ on BDP

<> Found that 'System' account has gone beyond its limit of 1GB. This is the reason it is unable to create folder at that location

<> For testing we removed the Disk Quota limit and now the package folder got created on BDP and in SCCM console, the package showed installed.

<> We enabled Disk Quota once again and now we know that if the packages would not be able to install, it is because of disk quota limit.

I have checked the size of package. It is 1.86 GB.

So I checked the quota of the drive D:\(where packages reside in BDP) of one of the BDP and found that it is set as “Do not limit disk usage”.

By default, does it take any value? Not sure about that.

Now, I think we need to change the direction of investigation.

Can someone suggests what to do next?

SCCM Advertisements - Invisible after moving to sub folders

$

Hi SCCM Gurus,

I was in the issue of moving an advertisement to a subfolder and found a solution which a script does it perfectly. Now I can move an already available advertisement to a subfolder and immediately i can see the same in the subfolder.

While creating the advertisement, im using the same script code to move the created advertisement to the same subfolder, but unable to see the advertisement in any folder. Thru script code, i can find it and i can find the advertisement id also but not visually. Thru the same script i tried to find the location of the advertisement and it says, it resides in the subfolder where i have moved earlier. but i cant see that visually in that subfolder.

Note: Before finding the moving script also, i faced the same issue as the created advertisements are not visible as moving is failed.

Is there anyway to see the advertisements which are available (Accessible thru script) and not visible. May i know why this is behaving like this. Please help. The used script codes are attached here for your reference.

'To Move the Advertisement to an subfolder
strAdvertName = inputbox("Enter the advertisement name")
Set colAdverts = objSCCM.ExecQuery("Select * From SMS_Advertisement where AdvertisementName = '" & strAdvertName & "'")
For Each advert In colAdverts
	strAdvertiseID =  advert.AdvertisementID
Next
AdvertID(0) = strAdvertiseID
Set AdvertisementInfo = objSCCM.ExecQuery ("select * from SMS_ObjectContainerNode where Name = '" & FolderName & "'")
For Each objItem in AdvertisementInfo
	folderID = objItem.ContainerNodeID
Next
Set objAdvertFolder = objSCCM.Get("SMS_ObjectContainerItem")
MoveAdvertisement = objAdvertFolder.MoveMembers (AdvertID, 0, folderID, "3")

'To Find the Advertisement ID which is not visible
strAdvertName = inputbox("Enter the advertisement name")
Set colAdverts = objSCCM.ExecQuery("Select * From SMS_Advertisement where AdvertisementName = '" & strAdvertName & "'")
For Each advert In colAdverts
	strAdvertiseID =  advert.AdvertisementID
Next
msgbox strAdvertiseID

'To find the folder where the invisible advertisement resides
set ads = objSCCM.ExecQuery("SELECT ContainerNodeID FROM SMS_ObjectContainerItem WHERE InstanceKey = '" & AdvertID(0) & "' AND ObjectType = 3")
for each itm in ads
	msgbox itm.ContainerNodeID
next

Every App/Advertisement works except for 1 which now returns error code 5.

I understand that this is a common question that is asked, however, I do not seem to find any answers that are related to my specific issue. In the past I have been able to run advertisements for a number of applications which get pushed out without incident. However, I recently just created a new program (Adobe Flash Player 11.8.800.94) to be distributed, and I now currently get the failure with exit code 5 was returned. The strange thing is, I am still able to create and push out any other application without error.

I use the same credentials and distribution points for all the applications, but this one app, now returns the exit code 5. I can run the install on the client manually and I have no issues.

If there are any suggestions on where to go from here it would be appreciated.

double sending appeared when send a big package from central site server to a DP

I am using SCCM2007R3. often time, I have the following problem:

1. I created a big package (bigger than 10GB) at central site server. then I send it to all DPs.

2. often times, for some DPs, after central site's backup job ran or server rebooted, there will be a duplicated sending to those DP, for same package.

3. those DPs, normally have not so good WAN connection.

anyone has similiar experience and if there is any workaround? this problem bothered me for quite long time and it is really annoying because it consumes double WAN traffic...

thanks in advance!

Moving Package to new DP Drive

$

I'm looking for a better way to move packages from one drive to another on a distribution point.  Most threads about moving packages refer to this article:

http://blogs.technet.com/smsandmom/archive/2008/09/04/moving-the-smspkgc-share-to-a-different-drive.aspx

While that works I'm looking for something cleaner that doesn't leave you with 2 shares.  I think I'm nearly there.  Here's what I'm doing so far:

1) Move <PackageID>.PCK from D:\SMSPKG to S:\SMSPKG

2) Move D:\SMSPKGD$\<PackageID> to S:\SMSPKGS$\<PackageID>

3) Update the SCCM database to point to the new location with the following code:

UPDATE PkgStatus
SET Location = (
	SELECT SUBSTRING(Location,1,43) + 'S' + SUBSTRING(Location,45,11)
	FROM PkgStatus
	WHERE Sitecode = '' AND Type = 2 AND Location LIKE '%SMSPKGD$%' AND ID = '<PackageID>'
)
WHERE Sitecode = '' AND Type = 2 AND Location LIKE '%SMSPKGD$%' AND ID = '<PackageID>'

UPDATE PkgStatus
SET Location = (
	SELECT SUBSTRING(Location,1,14) + 'S' + SUBSTRING(Location,16,21)
	FROM PkgStatus
	WHERE Sitecode = '' AND Type = 1 AND Location LIKE '%\D$\SMSPKG\%' AND ID = '<PackageID>'
)
WHERE Sitecode = '' AND Type = 1 AND Location LIKE '%\D$\SMSPKG\%' AND ID = '<PackageID>'

UPDATE PkgStatus
SET HTTPUrl = (
	SELECT SUBSTRING(HTTPUrl,1,32) + 'S' + SUBSTRING(HTTPUrl,34,11)
	FROM PkgStatus
	WHERE Sitecode = '' AND Type = 2 AND HTTPUrl LIKE '%SMSPKGD$%' AND ID = '<PackageID>'
)
WHERE Sitecode = '' AND Type = 2 AND HTTPUrl LIKE '%SMSPKGD$%' AND ID = '<PackageID>'

4) Restart SMS_EXECUTIVE on relevent Secondary Site Server

5) Watch distmgr.log and verify that the HTTPUrl for the package shows new location:

Setting HTTPUrl to \SMSPKGS$">\\<Server>\SMSPKGS$

Unfortunately that last step still shows the old location.  My initial thought is that the DP is not checking the Primary SCCM Database to get the location, but instead is referencing some value stored in WMI from when the package was last refresh.  If I do a refresh on this DP from the console it can't find the new location of the PCK and starts pushing out a new copy and then everything's good, but the point of this isn't to just push the package down again. Does anyone know if the distribution manager is getting the local location of the package from WMI (Possibly root\ccm\LocationServices or something similar)? If so, it likely wouldn't be much work to add a function to a script to change the location stored in WMI. My final goal is to have a powershell script that you give a source and destination drive and it does everything from moving the content to the new location, update the SCCM database, and then whatever else i'm missing (possibly wmi) so that packages can be easily be moved from one spot to another cleanly as if they were always there.

u786farooq posted something along these lines that updating the DB was all you needed, but that doesn't seem to be the case

Deploying applications from Central site to other primary sites

$

Hi Guys,

I am here again with a question.

We have 1 Central Site (CN1) and 3 primary sites (PS1, PS2 and PS3) in various countries.

Before all the primary sites managed by various teams to add packages, OS deployments and windows patching. Recently one of our senior engineers packaged all the apps and integrated to the Central site (CN1) and they use those packages to deploy to their region. Now we want to use the packages from central site (CN1) to deploy to the clients on other primary sites.

So, we have replicated a test package to our primary site (PS1) and deployed the package from Central Site (CN1) console. Since last 12 hours, the package to the machine stuck with “No Status”.

From client side, nothing downloaded on to cache and no policy has been arrived and no traces in exemgr.log file.

Is it actually possible to deploy applications from Central sites to other primary sites? Is any special configuration required for this?

OS deployment and Applications deployment through Task Sequence works fine. Only the application deployment using a collection wont work.

Thanks for any help.

Cheers

CRM Deployment - only BITS*.TMP files appear in client Cache folder

$

Hi all,

we've got a problem in that when we roll out CRM via SCCM 2007, the client machine creates a folder in the C:\Windows\System32\CCM\Cache folder but it is only populated with BIT*.TMP files. After a bit of research we concluded this is most probably because the new security restirctions in IIS7 which are causing certain BITS file transfers to stall/fail on their journey from the Distribution Point to the client.

Having run "bitsadmin /list /allusers" cmd line on the client computer we discovered there were two jobs with an error:

Job 1:

GUID: {A04A76D8-50E3-4412-9A02-F93E1B32EAFC} DISPLAY: 'CCMDTS Job'

TYPE: DOWNLOAD STATE: TRANSIENT_ERROR OWNER: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

ERROR FILE:    http://SCCMSERVER01.local:80/SMS_DP_SMSPKGS$/A010005B/PFiles/MSCRM/Client/res/Web/_imgs/area/18_schedulerules.gif -> C:\WINDOWS\system32\CCM\Cache\A010005B.7.System\PFiles/MSCRM/Client/res/Web/_imgs/area/18_schedulerules.gif

Job 2:

GUID: {A026C8DE-FEDB-4600-B489-3BB9F66594ED} DISPLAY: 'CCMDTS Job'

TYPE: DOWNLOAD STATE: TRANSIENT_ERROR OWNER: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

ERROR FILE:    http://SCCMSERVER01.local:80/SMS_DP_SMSPKGS$/A0100184/PFiles/MSCRM/Client/res/Web/AppWebServices/MailMerge.asmx -> C:\WINDOWS\system32\CCM\Cache\A0100184.1.System\PFiles/MSCRM/Client/res/Web/AppWebServices/MailMerge.asmx

The next step, we think, is to edit the settings contained in the C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config file to enable the above jobs to run without IIS blocking them. The trouble is, we can't seem to figure out which part of the applicationHost.config file needs editing. Has anyone got and advice on how we should proceed?

Any help or info would be much appreciated! Thanks

Deployment of Powershell Scripts in a 64-bit Environment via SCCM

Hello,

I've come across a problem whilst deploying Powershell scripts to 64-bit Windows.

When a script is deployed by SCCM the Powershell environment is 32-bit, even on 64-bit windows.

Is there anyway to force the script to run in a 64-bit environment?

Thanks,

George

One package not being distributed to Branch DP

$

Hi all,

I have been trying to search for this issue, but have not found anything similar to this.

My problem is that there is a single Package that is not being transferred to the Branch DP.

Oher packages haev transferred ok, but there is one that does not. I have deleted and republished the package several times with no luck.

All packages have been created to copy the source files from a local directory on the site server.

The only differences that I can see between the packages are that the one not transferring:

 - is larger - about 80MB (The others aless than 20MB each)

 - contains a folder with files in it. The packages that were copied only contain one or two files each, with no folder.

Would there be any reason that would stop one package being copied but not the others?

Oh, this is with SCCM 2007 R3

Regedit import registry file not working in Windows 7 PC through SCCM PXE image deployment

$

the registry keys we want to import are in HKLM

we are running the following from a command line using regedit.exe /s appv_reg_fix.reg

the pc's we are imaging are windows 7 32 bit

we added a dummy reg key which did not exist and we can see that this is added to the registry when the advertisement runs.

however the 2 registry keys we are trying to replace remain the same unchanged.

the above works ok for a sccm task sequence but not when we use it in sccm pxe image deployment

is there any reason for this?
