I think my task sequence is hanging with "Waiting for job status notification"

I'm having an issue on a number of computers running a task sequence.  Many of them are failing with exit code 1152.  I've got the task sequence set to run every 4 hours until the computer is removed from the collection.  I'm in the process of sifting through SMSTS.log files to see what went wrong.  One my first system, something happened that I didn't think was possible.

My task sequence performs 4 steps.  The first two run correctly.  On this particular system (and it may be more or all of them), the third step started at 12:03:34 AM 06-04-2013 and then the log is nothing but "Waiting for job status notification..." until 10:58:05 AM 06-06-2013.  It looks like the only reason it stopped then was that the system was shutdown.

How is this possible? The step in question has a maximum allowed runtime of 30 minutes.  Why is my TS waiting so long?

I'm assuming that my 1152 exit codes are the result of trying to re-launch a task sequence after 4 hours when the previous attempt is hunt?

Branch Distribution Point Windows 7 clients don't download Software Updates

I know this is a known issue, because i've read numerous articles about it the last 3 days to find a solution.

We have a SCCM 2007 R3 site running with windows 7 clients in Amsterdam. We have a little office in NewYork, 10 users. Last week i installed a BDP on a windows 2008 R2 server in NewYork

Configured boundaries, and the BDP is getting the updates from de standard DP. But the Clients in NY don't get the updates. In the client cache i can see all the windows update folders, but they are empty.

I've tried everything i could find on the net about this issue.

See my Boundaries

I also went through the IIS logfiles, and saw this:

I then configured the BDP to use a Site System Installation Account, but thath didn't solved the issue.

I deleted the package from the BDP, and add it again after some the package was deleted.

Also did a Content refresh after a while, and updated the BDP again.

None of this solved my issue.

SCCM 2007 SP2: Collection not reflecting memberships from all systems

Hi SCCM Gurus..

Im beginner in SCCM and In my env (Windows 2003 SP2 and SCCM 2007 SP2), After created the collection and all stuff for a package, Im adding machines to the AD group which the collection query was configured with. No matter I'm adding the machines which already part of some other collection / New machines added into the domain the collection takes a day to show the machines. Immly after adding the machine to domain, i can see those machines in all systems collection within 30 mins. But the collection is not reflecting the memberships, but it takes a day to do so

•Tried "Update Collection Memberships" option and F5
•Tried with new machine and old machine (which already gone thru some other collection and deployed)

After creating the AD group i can see the "AD System Group Discovery" finds the group thru adsysgrp.log. But i have no idea how to track the group membership updates towards collection members list. Upto my knowledge i have given below info

•Deployment anyway happening fine, only with too much of delay of one day. Hence i dont think there will be any config issues for deployment.
•Direct memberships in collection also happening fine. But its not our way of deployment. We need Groups based.
•After adding the machine to domain, i can see the machine in all systems in 30 mins. hence discovery happening fine i hope.
•If we create a collection with the machines already in SCCM console, it has to reflect the collection members immly i hope. Coz, i can see the faster response in another domain in this scenario (but its win 2008 ent server)
•With the same discovery polling schedules, that another domain collections reflects the members within hours.

I have already searched thru technet forums and googled, not able to find informations relevant to my issue hence posting it here. Please guide me through how this can be sorted out. What other details you may need to help me, i can provide those.

In our enviornment users app-v profile is stored on the map drive. we have migrated the same to new storage (drive letter remain the same).

however after migration app-v software icons are not displaying. software names appears in the normal text. this is happening for all users & all app-v softwares.

if we checked the app-v profile of user through exploerer icons are displaying properly. users are able to launch application successfully.

please suggest.

Application not updating on a couple of DPs

We have 55 secondary sites and each is a DP.  A package was created and deployed to all DPs.  52 got the package.  On the 3 that did not get it I see the samething in the distmgr.log on the DP.

Removing package US1002AA from the active package array.

What is odd is this is the last statement  but prior to this you see many statements that show it is working.  But it never actually shows up in the SSMPKGD$ share.

When you view the package Status Message the last entry is this:

SMS Distribution Manager successfully processed package "Acme Software" (package ID = US1002AA).

How come there is no US1002AA folder on the 3 failed DPs?

Distribution Points w/ SCCM 2007 R3 in Parent and Child setup

Hi guys,

First of all I want to mention that I fairly new to the SCCM world. I have a quick question regarding Distribution Points and how do they work. Our network is composed of 2 domains.

test.com (root) sccm deployed here Primary Site

sub.test.com (child domain) sccm deployed here also Primary Site

I am wondering is there any automatic way to deploy all new created packages to sync automatically to the child domain with the primary site. The reason I asked is that this seemed to occur back in the day because majority of the packages are present in the child sites.

Also would it be possible to have the child site request the packages from its parent?

Thank you,

George S.

Sync Issue with Parent Site

I am in charge of the Child site, have no access of the parent site. Is there anything I could do so, my distmgr.log doesnt get filed up every 10 minutes? I am getting the following errors:

Processing incoming file c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Configuration Manager\inboxes\distmgr.box\INCOMING\K9BG2G1E.PKG.                        SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER  12/06/2013 141129Z                      8896 (0x22C0)

Adding package CRL000B9 to the active package array.              SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER  12/06/2013 141129Z                      8896 (0x22C0)

Package CRL000B9 requires a newer version (2) of source files and the new compressed files haven't arrived yet, current version is 1, skip c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Configuration Manager\inboxes\distmgr.box\INCOMING\K9BG2G1E.PKG                       SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER  12/06/2013 141129Z    8896 (0x22C0)

Removing package CRL000B9 from the active package array.  SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER  12/06/2013 141129Z                      8896 (0x22C0)

I did read that I should do either one of the 2 things but that envolves the parent site to do it on their side.

Action:

Reload the PKG file from the Parent DP to the Child DP and run PreloadPkgOnSite.exe

or

Remove CRL000B9 package from the Distribution Point on Primary Child site within the SCCM Console and wait a couple of minutes and re-distribute it to the child site.

Any info would be great, Thank you,

Installing from old cache folder

We are distributing a package that needs to run from cache. On the advert ‘Download content from DP and run locally’ is enabled, as well as ‘ Always rerun program’ and several mandatory assignments are scheduled. When the advert is scheduled, it installs on most clients. I found that on some cases the BDP from which the client receives the package is offline. The client receives the policy and runs old content from the client cache and report the advert as successfully installed.

Why does this happen and is there a way to put an end to this behaviour?

CM Client disappears after OSD and WU

Hello all,

After a W7 OSD deployment the CM 2007 client somehow gets uninstalled. Right after the deployment the client is working. I am able to install applications from RAP. During this time WU are installing via WSUS. after the reboot for the updates the client is gone from the system. The windows\ccm and the syswow\CCM direrctorys are there but the client is not installed. This is a recent issue. The OSD TS has not been modified in 3 months.  Could a WU patch be uninstalling the client??

thanks,

Deploying Java successfully?

$

We need to upgrade several hundred PC's via SCCM 2007 with the latest Java edition-7 Update 25.  Most are Windows 7 64-Bit systems (and a few XP 32-Bit systems).  We only need to install the 32 bit Java version.  I looked online a few places for the best solution, and couldn’t necessarily find anything. A few questions:

1. Do I need to uninstall the old version before installing the new one?  Or when the new one installs will it automatically remove the old one?  Will a new version just install 'on top of' the old one?

2.  Will settings migrate from their old version to the newly installed version?

3.  I heard that if a user’s IE or Firefox browser is open, the install will hang.  For most people to get around this, they have tried scripting solutions to terminate the browser.  What about just running the installer when a user logs in?  Any issues there?

4.  Any specific switches or options that need to be set on the command line installer when it runs?

SAP GUI 720 PL1 Deployment Issues

I’ve setup an advertisement for SAP GUI 720 Patch Level 1 install to test WinXP workstation and SAP GUI and related components are installed but:

1. Application uninstall doesn't work.  It just flashes quickly and then quits entirely.

2. SCCM reports don't report successful, even though the program installs ok

Original Advertisement

\Setup\NwSapSetup.exe /Silent /Package="SAP Logon 720 PL1" (SAP Logon 720 PL1 being the name of the modified package)

Uninstalling using Control Panel Add/Remove Programs doesn't work. It just flashes after a few seconds and then exits.  No progress bar. I also tried running these command based uninstallations locally and also from the original network location.

Local uninstallation command:
"C:\Program Files\SAP\SapSetup\setup\NwSapSetup.exe" /uninstall /all /nodlg

Network Uninstallation commands:
\\servername\SAPGui720-PL1\Setup\NwSapSetup.exe /uninstall /all /nodlg
\\servername\SAPGui720-PL1\Setup\NwSapSetup.exe /Silent /Uninstall /Package="SAP Logon 720 PL1"

Reporting

Though SAP installs ok, the reports show Program Started then Program Failed (run time exceeded)

NOTES:

Manually installing using this same UNC path to the network installation installs and uninstalls fine: \\servername\sapgui720-pl1\Setup\NwSapSetup.exe /Silent /Package="SAP Logon 720 PL1"

Advertising a complete UNC path gives the same results: successful install, unable to uninstall, report says failed.

Running nwcheckworkstation.exe on effected machine reports no issues.

Only existing workaround at the moment is to manually reinstall using full command line then uninstall using Control Panel Add/Remove Programs.

I’ve read the various info on “how to install SAP 7.10” on the web
http://brpo.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!25A2E9EE5C828DD6!163.entry?sa=794488142

This is the only thing that seems unusual in the sapsetup.log taken from a test machine

“12:26:15  NwSapsEngn  1W DM: Seemingly impossible situation , an existing workstation doesn't have a valid SapWkstaSetup XML Document!”

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Reminders not appearins on Windows 7 x64 SCCM 2007 clients

$

I setup a manatory advertisement targeting a Task Sequence to a Windows 7 x64 machine. On the advertisement under Interaction I checked all the check boxes.

-Allow users to run it independently

-display reminders according to client agent reminder settings

-use countdown

-show TS progress

Under Computer client agent settings under site settings I have set the reminder time set to 4 hours.

After the advertisement appeared on my Windows 7 box it displayed the message box I have a Required Program and shows me the mandatory date and time. After closing this I never get a reminder (according to the computer client agent settings). I am not reminded every fours hours of this mandatory program. My XP machines are working just fine.

Also I have noticed this same issue when deploying Software Updates. The Win7 clients receive a popup for the patches but you do not get reminded again. We give the end user several days to install the patches.

Is this something new with Windows 7? Is it supposed to work this way?

My XP clients are working like they should, showing the reminders.

Thanks

One package not being distributed to Branch DP

Hi all,

I have been trying to search for this issue, but have not found anything similar to this.

My problem is that there is a single Package that is not being transferred to the Branch DP.

Oher packages haev transferred ok, but there is one that does not. I have deleted and republished the package several times with no luck.

All packages have been created to copy the source files from a local directory on the site server.

The only differences that I can see between the packages are that the one not transferring:

 - is larger - about 80MB (The others aless than 20MB each)

 - contains a folder with files in it. The packages that were copied only contain one or two files each, with no folder.

Would there be any reason that would stop one package being copied but not the others?

Oh, this is with SCCM 2007 R3

Good afternoon, otherwise there it is:)

I've got one parent sites and some of connected child primary sites. In many of times i don't want to let branch's admins deploying software from packages that i've maked in Parent Site office. After replication there are objects's with 'lock' in branch's console, admins simplely distribute this package on their DP's on deploy to the clients. How can i reject it. Thanks in advance.

Package got advertised on lot of machines - how?

Hi All

We deploy packages using Security groups in our environment.
Each Security group is linked to a collection which has a query.

Based on the security group membership, the machines get added to collections. A advertisement is applied on the collection

There were only 4 machines in the security group/Collection, but somehow got advertised to 9000 machines.

We are unable to figure out how 9000 machines got this advertisement.

If we check the collection, it shows only 4 machines though.

Similar issue happened few times even before.

Package/Advertisement status under System Status is not helping.

How can we figure out how these machines got this advertisement?

Please help.
